Many just think that the hurdle is the 1023 application when the real hurdles are getting your programs ready for operations, staffing the Board with members who support the mission and have the passion, having contributing Officers/members (not just having bodies on board), establishing some type of cash flow to sustain the nonprofit and getting funding from multi sources. There is a lot of work in building a non profit and I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO DO IT ALONE- get a professional to assist you throughout the developments.
Many opportunities are missed due to lack of follow-up or follow-through. It’s not enough to pray for a door to open, have talks on what can be accomplished or stating your expectations. You must press in and do the necessary work to see it all the way through!
Do you want a working Board? Well you have to do better screening, follow up with those interested, recruit effectively and so on.
If a funding opportunity presents itself yet you fail to respond timely, complete the requirements to receive it, or stay compliant after receiving it what does all that say about you and your organization?
One can’t complain about lack of resources or support while turning every opportunity away by not following up or following through.
My point is this, in order to grow, one has to SHOW UP, be present and ready to be trustworthy and accountable. The hard work still must be done. In doing your part- following up and following through- you actually create more opportunities! One door- open or close- leads to another opportunity. Whether you take advantage or miss out on opportunities will all depend on your output.
As the leader of your nonprofit, here’s a few jewels to remember on follow up and follow through; - Keep appointments - Network and connect - Create relationships - Stick to your plans - Do what you say you will do - Send thank you notes
- Follow up on invitations
- Delegate and hold others accountable
Remember your output brings input! What you put out is what comes in!

Regrann from @captain_care - FIRE. LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. This family lost everything when a car crashed into their mobile homes. Thankfully, Animal Control saved all the dogs and the turtle. Mom and her adult son, who live at separate addresses, both ended up in the hospital with burns. Mom just got home and has moved to another trailer. Between them there are 6 dogs and a turtle to get back home. We are getting the first three out tomorrow after their spay/neuter if we can raise the funds. The shelter has waived all boarding fees, so the fees we still need are just for vaccinations, license, chip, spay/neuter, etc. Please help this family reunite. PayPal is email@example.com Nicky $164 #A5155499 Max $164 #A5155500 and #A5155497 Andy $164.
