BECAUSE THE INTERNET
Gambino’s follow-up to 2011’s Camp improves upon that album on every single front. Donald refined all aspects of his music for this project. his flow, his singing, the production and overall aesthetic, and even conceptually this is miles ahead of its predecessor. i unequivocally believe this is a masterpiece. i think it’s a perfect album and i’ll never understand the lukewarm critical reception it received upon release. its experimental production and revolution around the theme of technology and how it impacts human behavior make this a riveting listen that will remain relevant for years, if not decades, to come. i highly recommend reading this album’s companion screenplay and watching Glover’s “Clapping for the Wrong Reasons” short film for the complete BTI experience. this is one of my favorite albums of all time and the first work of Donald’s to exhibit his full potential as a visionary musician and storyteller. Gambino is a mastermind.
