One of things I spend a lot of time thinking about as a homeschooling family is potential “gaps in education.” What are my children missing out on by not being in real school?
And then I’m reminded that we all have gaps. After nearly 4 decades on this earth, the things I don’t know vastly outnumbers the list of things I do know. (And that’s 4 decades of formal schooling and deliberately seeking out knowledge).
I’m not alone. There’s a very real reason why specific-focus history months, museums, and historical sites exist. Our American story is far more than what we read about in textbooks.
I’m very thankful that our schedules and ability to travel gives us the opportunity to fill in some of these gaps.
