Taho in the Philippines. Tauhue in Indonesia. Tau Fu Fa in Malaysia. Douhua in China. Whatever it's called, wherever you are, it is definitely an Asian sweet favorite.
Taho is made up of silken soft tofu, arnibal (brown sugar syrup) and tiny sago pearls (tapioca). Some vendors add ingredients for different flavors like strawberry taho, ube taho and pandan taho. "How it came to be, as all legends do, vary depending on who you ask. According to legend, tofu started in the Han Dynasty where it was the result of a failure of conjuring immortality pills through a mixture of soybeans and bamboo piths. The gel-like form of tofu is caused by the high calcium content of raw salt in the mixture". (our7107islands.com/filipino-core-the-history-of-taho)
