Words from the Founder of @saveelephantfoundation@lek_chailert. Over a year ago, we invited an elephant owner from a camp in Samui, came to learn about our project in Chiang Mai. He later would bring his whole family several times to confirm to themselves the new task ahead of them. I also visited many times to their project to help with planning. After much preparation and work, we would like to announce that the first Elephant Sanctuary in Koh Samui called Samui Elephant Sanctuary ( SES) is now ready to open. Koh Samui is a mecca for tourists keen on experiencing elephants while in Thailand. SES is owned by Wittaya Salangam and his family who, for decades, have used their many elephants for trekking in Koh Samui. Today they are ready to change and bring their elephants to a life free from work.
The Sanctuary's first three Elephants have been retired from riding and have already moved to their new home. More will be coming to join them soon. If you come to the famous island of Samui and are hoping to visit with some happy elephants, Samui Elephant Sanctuary is the place to go. Follow your heart and discover another saddle off project. Please visit and support Samui Elephant Sanctuary if you are enjoying the Gulf of Thailand.
