After a great and successful hunt for Aoudad this week I thought I’d share some history on the animal.
Being a soldier that has traveled to many places I found the way the Aoudad aka Barbary Sheep was relocated to the United States fascinating. They were brought over in the late 40’s to early 50’s after WWII by soldiers that found them in Northern Africa. They thought the animal would be a great addition to the states for hunting purposes. The Aoudad was initially kept in high fence properties but soon learned how to escape. They now live in New Mexico, California and Texas in abundant herds. Those soldiers must’ve known a challenging animal when they saw one! This soldier put in a lot of time and a hard trek up a mountain to harvest! #learnsomethingnew#soldiers#armystrong#history#aoudad#barbarysheep
