Hello Buddies... Hope all of you must have started with your long weekend plans...as same as me.. Today evening we visited a friend's house for dinner and got a chance to eat traditional style "Litti and Chokha"...I just loved it with additional ghee and mashed potatoes... Enjoy your time
Our #meatlessmonday night dinner inspiration; right out of my husband's house in #banaras
So the mister complained on Sunday, while I was enjoying my favorite Rajma-chawal, how no one makes 'aloo ka chokha' for him anymore. Hinting at yours truly of course Because Chokha is pure love for him. And this thali is heaven on earth, literally speaking so. This meal brings back a lot of childhood memories for him; his mum still makes it for him whenever we go back to India. That Chokha & red tomato chutney is reserved only for her darling son.
Aloo ka #chokha is an eastern UP/ Bihari delight of seasoned mashed potatoes. This chutney, also called tamatar ka chokha is truly fantastic. Happily completes a dal-rice meal.
Recipe for Aloo ka Chokha - Boil and mash 2 potatoes very well. To this add half a cup finely chopped red onion, 2 finely chopped green chillies, 2 finely chopped garlic cloves, 1 tsp (raw) mustard oil, 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves and salt as per taste. Mix very well and enjoy.
Tomato chutney/ tamatar ka chokha - Grill 2 medium tomatoes preferably on the stove top till charred. Roast evenly on all sides. Once cool, remove the charred skin & chop/ mash well. Now add everything similar to the aloo chokha as above - chopped onions, chilies, garlic, salt, mustard oil, coriander leaves. You may also add a few drops of lemon juice, and mix well.
So I made for him along with rice, yellow dal tadka, a simple bottle-gourd stir fry, aloo ka Chokha, a roasted tomato chutney, he likes his yoghurt plain & of course there'll be mangoes because it's summer time !!
Yess, I had an extremely happy boy at the end I need to send this picture to the MIL too. #mymasalabox#meatlessmonday#dinner#vegetarian#indianfood#homemade#healthyeating#seasonalfood#freshfood#easyrecipes#childhoodmemories#momscooking#foodporn#curriesofindia@_betterbutter_@indian_foodiye@indianfoodtales@goodfoodindia#tasteofindia#everydaymeals
