Got the cabinet hung yesterday. Some may have wondered why the bottom shelf was so low and the reason is to prop up whatever you have in the bottom of the cabinet so the bottom rail of the doors don't block you from seeing the entire item. I've got a few hand made items that I purchased in the case now from fellow instagrmers that are really talented. I plan on adding to the collection over the years. I've still got a few more items to add that I already own.

To all my followers and their followers go over and check out Brian day @1120_designs and show him some love. He just cracked the 500 mark which is awesome. And he's another Virginia boy who loves woodworking. We Virginia boys apparently like to play with wood. #500followers#woodworking#wood#virginia#craftsman
I want to start this week with a little story. I built this hope chest about 21 years ago. When I designed it I really had no idea how much it would affect the outcome of my life.
See I built this hope chest for a girl who had stolen my heart at a very young age. Someone who I just couldn’t stop thinking about at the time (still can’t). Of course I was just a young kid then. I mean how much could a 17 year old boy really know about love?
I had visions of filling this hope chest with memories that were created over the years with this beautiful girl who I built it for. Pictures of our wedding day. Pictures of our children and the life that we built together.
That beautiful girl is now my wife and has been for many years.
It’s crazy to think back to those days. This hope chest is not perfect by any means. I was learning the art of working with wood. I was spending all my time in the wood shop class back then. Really honing in on the craft.
But what I didn’t realize at the time was how much that would influence a lot of the choices in my life. Seeing how happy she was when I gave her the hope chest is a feeling that has never left me. I get sooooo excited when I build a gift for someone and they love it.
That feeling is what drives me. It causes me to lose sleep when I am in the middle of a project and have ideas how to make it better. I truly LOVE seeing the expressions and feeling the gratitude of giving someone something special knowing that I created it.
Everything I build has a meaning to me. Whether it’s for my family. For myself or for all of you. Knowing that so many of you trust me to bring your vision to life is a true honor and a pleasure that I do not take lightly.
I just want to thank all of you for following along and supporting the journey we are on together. I appreciate every one of you! I am truly blessed that we can share this with so many people all across the globe!
It really does make me wonder where you are from? If you so desire drop a comment with where you live. It’s fun to see :) Let’s make it a great week :) Have an awesome day!!
