Last Sunday I said goodbye to our family dog. Leaving my parents house after a Mother's Day visit, I knew the next time I visited home he would be gone. At 16 and half years old he was beginning to suffer and the obvious choice was for him to be put to sleep . It said goodbye with a smile -- because, hey, 16 is pretty good age for a dog -- and I know he's had a good life.
So please don't feel sad, and know that no sympathy is needed here. I had a good friend for a long time, and his life was filled with love and comfort and family. There are so many dogs who don't have this, and those are the ones we should feel sad for.
