INCIDENT VIDEO RELEASE: On February 21st, 2018 at 4:48 p.m. responded to a reported commercial structure fire in the 400 block of South Arrowhead Ave. in the city of San Bernardino. Medic Engine 221 arrived on scene 5 minutes after dispatch and reported a heavy smoke and fire showing from one unit of a multiple unit commercial strip. A 2nd alarm was requested and crews went into the offensive attack mode. Medic Truck 221 initially supported vertical ventilation operations to give interior crews a more tenable working environment while they made a push inside the building.
After several minutes of an aggressive attack crews were pushed back by heavy fire conditions and a partial roof collapse, which ultimately led to an operational retreat. Once crews exited the building the fire was deemed a “defensive fire” and efforts focused on protecting exposures and flowing large volumes of water to obtain knockdown.
The fire was contained to the unit of origin and knockdown declared approximately 60 minutes later. County Fire responded with 8 paramedic engines, 3 truck companies, 3 chief officers, 1 heavy rescue and 1 fire investigator for a total of 40 personnel. Redlands Fire Dept. and Colton Fire Dept also assisted on this incident.
Two civilians suffered minor smoke inhalation and refused transport. There were no injuries to firefighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the office of the fire marshal. : @soria221@b_gradias@bobby4432@intothesmoke@everyday_firefighters_@usafirelife@firefighters_daily@leatherheadssocialclub@trainyourprobie@ffprovinggrounds@911firerescue
