Heathcliff did not make it through his surgery. I wish we'd had more than three weeks with him.
He did have an inguinal hernia. About half his intestines and his bladder had migrated through the abdominal wall and pelvis. Our vet wasn't able to get them back through the very small hole, and he had to be euthanized on the table.
So far, very little is known about hamsters and hernias. We don't really know what the risk factors are, and The Pipsqueakery is now 0 out of 2 on attempts at treatment. Hopefully, some day soon we'll know more about the problem. Until then, we'll just have to march on without this incredibly sweet little guy and his little hamster smile. We love you Heathcliff. Thanks for making the journey from Florida to our hearts.
Meet Mia and Zhu Li! These two babies were born here at The Pipsqueakery after their mom, Omashu, came here pregnant. We named almost all of the babies after characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender except Mia because her future mom picked out her name. Their brothers are King Bumi, Jet, and Smellerbee! In about 2 more weeks these cuties will be ready to go to their new home! #hamster#baby#chinesehamster
They're really showing their fur! I'm so excited to see how they grow and when they open their eyes (should be in around 4 days) I'll be handling them! They're so so cute and they're even eating proper food, I love them so so much
(10 days old in this)
: Washing them hands getting ready for breakfast
Pls checkout @savekidscastle to help them build their inclusive park! They are getting closer and closer to it happening so any donations will make it happen sooner
We now present to you: Mortimer! Starring in The Dance of The Pigglepuff Faeries.
When Mortimer gets his critical care twice a day he has quite the ritual with it. First, he runs around the cage and wheeks at everyone. Then he stands by the food and wheeks and tweets at it. Then he purrs and rumbles and waves his little booty at it.
It's so insanely cute that I just had to share it with all of you. Tag a friend who needs to see a guinea pig dance at his food.
FYI: Some people might think his rumbling is directed at the other guinea pigs, but I can assure you it isn't. He does this alone or with other pigs around and I'm pretty sure he doesn't totally understand guinea pig social cues. #guineapig#wheek#rumble#purr#dance#love#weeklyfluff
