Working within the studio system, like the Fox Lot, I've been lucky enough to learn the history behind a lot of productions from the horse's mouth. Although this is no secret and certainly you can get your hands on it, I received a box of rejected scripts for Alien 3 from back when it was in development hell. I read them all and I would have loved to see all of them made into Alien 3. One script had Alien/people hybrids attacking the White House. It pretty much ignored the Alien rules but was a fun read. The best rejected Alien 3 script was called The Wooden Planet script. It bad Ripley landing on a Death Star- like planet made of wood and consisting only of monks and zoo animals . The Xenomorphs would burst from animal's chests to be particularly like those animals. They made a toy line of this concept but it saddened a 10 year old me to find there was no gorilla Xenomorph in Alien 3 even though I had an action figure of it. The final film is similar to the wood planet concept but not nearly as interesting and unfortunately the least watched by me. However, happy 25 birthday to Alien 3! I wouldn't mind seeing you erased by Neill Blomkamp's unfortunately cancelled concept.
