My most favorite tools for creating a smokey eye on myself // I don't prefer black eyeshadow for a smokey eye- too literal and too much if this is a look you like to wear frequently. I prefer a soft brown on the eyelids and maybe the bottom lid; I then rim the eyes and waterlines in pitch black. If it smudges over time, good. It's not meant to be neat. Only bit of "neatness" might be a small cat-eye flick on the outer corners of eyes. My long-time inspo has been the smokey eye here that @kateleemakeup created for Keira Knightley years ago. // @maccosmetics shadow in Cork, kohl pencil in Feline, @bobbibrown Longwear Gel Liner in Black

Mixing the old with the new. I typically try not to buy any non-essentials without finishing at least one product first. However, I really wanted to streamline my eyeshadow game for an upcoming wedding (makes packing easier too). I sometimes feel like I never do an eye look the same way twice, and when I get started on a wedding look I get antsy. I've grabbed the wrong eyeshadow, forgotten primer, used the wrong brush, etc. This is also why I don't have coffee before doing someone's makeup I need to be relaxed and organized. Something like a palette will keep the mess from getting too crazy. I played around with it last night too, and it's easy and soooo lovely!
