I recently became aware of Artist John Kingerlee's work and I'm particularly taken with his use of colour and urban, contemporary style.
Actually, I love it.
I spotted one of his prints yesterday for £850 and I was instantly annoyed, that as per usual, I saw yet another piece of art, that I couldn't afford. Well, I CAN afford it but I simply refuse to pay that sort of money for a glorified photocopy on fancy paper.
I bought a print for my bedroom redesign a few weeks ago and it cost £45 and it KILLED ME to pay that.
If I'm going to pay £850 for art, it's gotta be an original. It's gotta have lumps and bumps, with shiny bits and entice you to run your finger over it.
Prints just don't cut it for me. Maybe I have formed this opinion because I'm very Artistic (and my Mum is an Artist). Maybe I'm snobby when it comes to prints. I don't know.
I DO know that art. Proper art that has texture and is REAL, should be more flippin affordable.
