Making ‘Main Street’ Pt. 3
What the Float!? or how to make a dragon glow.
FLOATS! It IS the parade! I had to call upon my deep art skills. To be clear I went to an art high school and an art college. How I ended up doing what I do now is a fun story . . . for another time. It makes me giggle when people are stunned at my artistic capabilities, like, I went to school for half my life for this. I hope I’m semi good. Anyway. I had the drawings and basic color ideas how the heck to I put it on a dress? I tried several fabrics. All of which would leave frayed holes for the lights because well, cloth. I ended up back at the light blocking fabric I used in the underskirt/petticoat because YES it blocks out all other light. So I ordered an awl and a leather hole punch, sat down and set myself to task hammer in hand. Each panel, just hole punching. Close to an hour and a half. 7 panels. You can do math. Honestly, a lot of the time was sent clearing out the punch with the awl. Fabric and the plastic stencil I used would only allow me to punch 12-15 holes at a time. It was exciting to see it come together! Next time, Dot and Doodle! or Seurat aint got nothing on my stipple skills!
