These woman use some pretty interesting ingredients to naturally dye the alpaca fibre for their intricate works. The most intriguing to me was the cochineal, a small parasite found primarily on the prickly pear cactus. They crush up this insect and add other ingredients such as lemon and salt, to create over 20 different hues of red. The colours they create are so vibrant it’s hard to believe they come from natural sources
