WHAT SET US APART?
A human handprint made about 30,000 years ago in a cave wall in southern France. Somebody tried to say, 'I was here!'
It is not the dexterity in our hands that set us apart from the other humans that have existed such as the Neanderthals, homo erectus, homo floresiensis or our fellow cousin the chimpanzee that share 98% of our DNA. It is our ability to gather in thousands to create orderly patterns that no other species has the capability of. We all share the same biological laws. We are still animals, and our physical, emotional and cognitive abilities are shaped by our DNA that are the same building blocks as Neanderthal or chimpanzee societies. There has been no significant improvement in our tool-making capacity over the last 30, 000 years. Albert Einstein was far less dexterous with his hands than was an ancient hunter gatherer. However, our capacity to cooperate with large numbers of strangers has improved dramatically. The ancient flint spearhead was manufactured in minutes by a single person, who relied on the advice and help of a few intimate friends. The production of a modern nuclear warhead requires cooperation of millions of strangers all over the world - from the workers who mine the uranium ore in the depths of the earth to theoretical physicists who write long mathematical formulas to describe the interactions of subatomic particles.

I saw a post from @therock today saying he’s always be the hardest worker in the room, & after my 10 miler this morning I took that inspiration into my @maverickrunners intervals session this evening. It started with a 1 mile time trial (20 sec improvement from 2 weeks ago) & then 3 min, 5 min, 5 min, 3 min with 1 min rest. I was by no means the fastest on the time trial, but that first rep saw me ahead of a load of those people, & some were still behind me at the end too. It isn’t about what other people can do, it’s about your own effort ... I’m just over here, being the hardest worker in the room! ♀️
