My little Nose Work specialised lady Angeldog in training. There's one single drop of eucalyptus hidden in a straw. Here she marks it. (I've promised them a whole weekend just the five of us. Now it was the time - with indoors and outdoors activities )
Let your #dog lay down. Throw the item between his forlegs and immediately when he snuffles on it you praise him effusively and exchange the item for food. Sounds not that difficult, huh?
Let me tell you, for me and Wotan it is...somehow he realises that what I throw him is NOT food or a ball or anything else he is interested in. That happens even before the item has barely touched the ground. Because of that Wotan sees no reason to investigate the thrown item any further or even touch it with his nose not to talk about prodding it. What he does instead you can see on the pic:
He Stares At Me There is NOTHING I can do to quicken his interest in that stupid item...and even if he deigns to snuffle again (just to assure himself that there is really no food) he snuffles on every spot he can reach from his position. Every spot. But NEVER and I mean NEVER touches the item.
I'm a graduate! Tonight was the final class of Sniffer Dog 2 at @opbarks and I was ON FIRE with my box searches, minus that one search where I just found a whole bag of treats and not what was in the boxes. What can I say--I'm not a dumb hound! Gotta be efficient to eat all the treats! I had so much fun! See my next post to check out the happy face I always have on during class! #snifferdog#nosework#bdogsrule#opbarks#training#houndskills
