Not all is as it seems at the Karen Long Neck Village in Chang Mai.
Known for the traditional rings worn around their necks, the Karen are not Thai, they're refugees from Myanmar who, while granted residency in Thailand, are not permitted to work. Rather, the Thai government leases them land where they set up replicas of their traditional villages and charge an entry fee because they have no other options. Remember this if you choose to visit. Be respectful; it's not a human zoo.
