I often receive questions regarding Basset Hound's and their skin! This can be people asking whether i have experienced any issues with the girls or whether it is a common problem for them to have skin issues or people wanting some advice on how they can help reduce any skin irritations or constant scratching. Watching your Basset scratch or seeing their skin flare up can be really upsetting and frustrating when nothing seems to work. One thing, I MUST stress to you all is to firstly see your vet, always always seek advice from your vet, remember they are professionals and will have your animals welfare at heart! Secondly, do some research and consider changing their diet. Sometimes a simple change in kibble brand or changing to raw or from raw can make all the difference and remember each dog is different!! OK, now, to one of my must have, go to products!! Triocil shampoo... some quick info... you can buy it from most vets or online vet stores I got mine from 'vet n pet direct' in Australia or 'my vet' in New Zealand. Most online vet stores will sell this and i don't think you would have any issues sourcing it in the UK/US and Europe. I paid $30 plus shipping for a 250ml bottle and they also do 1L for $75.
The reason I use Triocil is because Bassets are prone to skin issues. They are purposely bred with excess skin and the folds can become irritable due to sweat or moisture getting inside them. This can cause fungal issues and rashes which becomes very itchy and sore for them. You do need to keep using it but a little amount goes a long way. I make sure I get into their chin and chest folds by massaging it in and working it into their skin. Mabel suffers from sore skin under her chin due to the fact that she submerges her entire face when she drinks..! Triocil helps to stop her from scratching and it keeps their coat really clean too!! I use this even though they do not have skin issues, it prevents any problems and it came highly recommended by a Basset Hound Guru!! I hope this helps for any of you having issues and feel free to message me with any questions!! Thanks
