Like the addiction to every other drug, our addiction to nicotine makes us needy. The meaning of being a smoker is that I wake up every morning knowing that today, like every other day, I will have to smoke more cigarettes. It is part of my way of life, a reality over which I have no control. From this particular perspective, in a way that is similar to alcoholics and addicts to other drugs, smokers are addicted to nicotine. Nevertheless, both as individuals and as a society we unconsciously ignore the addiction to nicotine.
