2018-Feb-16: 恭禧發財 / Gōng Xǐ Fā Cái! It's been 8 years since I last celebrated Chinese New Year with my family, because I never went home this time of the year. Ever since I was a kid, Chinese New Year was always my second most favorite holiday of the year, and I looked forward to the family luncheons, and dragon and lion dances that ensued. I decided to stop wasting my life sulking about that for once, and to try and do something on my end. The result: a homemade, made-from-scratch feast of Tikoy (term in Filipino-Chinese) or Nian Gao (sticky fried rice cake, my favorite! Sadly, the U.S. doesn't have any pandan-flavored, ube-flavored, or Shangri-La hotel brand tikoy, but I'll live!), Fried Rice, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and Mabo Tofu, to share with Marc, and a somewhat decorated home for the season <3. The decorations have been up since January, but I had to replace them briefly for Valentine's Day. Haha. 新年快樂 / Xīn Nián Kuài Lè!
