One of my biggest down falls in life: Not properly protecting myself. Im not talking about physically, but about everything that makes me "Courtney" - my well being and my heart.
I'm starting to finally learn (23 years later) that it's okay to want your own happiness. It's okay to care for yourself. It's okay to believe in yourself. We are not obligated to sit around and take every bit of disrespect or bullshit someone throws at us. We're not doormats. We are human and we have every right to say "that was not right of you" or "I am doing this for me" and stand up for ourselves. We have every single right to set boundaries and accept nothing less than respectful interactions. I understand many times it's uncomfortable to set these boundaries because it seems as though the rest of the world doesn't realize we have this right. So trust me when I say, people will act offended when you make your happiness a priority for once.... but it's your right- I'm learning if you don't exercise it, you'll never be consistently happy.
