I FINALLY finished this book. Truly it took me a couple of months of on-off and being in the mood. It was great. A big rollicking adventure in art, gender, patriarchy, identity, the classics, love, family, anger, roles, masks and more.
If you have ever been cranky that women artists, writers or philosophers seem lost in the quagmire of history, even if they seem just as brilliant as their male counterparts this book is for you.
If you like chapters in different voices and characters this book is for you.
If you feel cynical about the mainstream big city 'art scene' this book is for you.
If you kind wish you'd been a bit more vigilant in giving yourself a classical education instead of sometimes reading crime drama or goofing off and reading easy to digest airport novels - and wish someone would bloody just summarise the classics and download them into your brain - this book won't exactly do that but it might wave them around under your nose a bit and at least remind you they are there.
Funny, layered and moving I thought. #reading#justread#thumbsup#sirihustvedt
Working with other people isn't always sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes conversations lead to little confrontations. Which could go either way. Learning how to deal with those conversations is always a growing process. Learning how to conduct business is always a growing process. But in the end try and make it a good outcome and always respect each other. -----------------
In the book, "Wooden: A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections On and Off the Court" there was a part where Coach Wooden wrote that he would tell his players each year, "Fellows, you're going to receive criticism. Some of it will be deserved and some of it will be undeserved. Either way, deserved or undeserved, you're NOT going to like it. You're also going to receive praise on occasion. Some of it will be deserved and some of it will be undeserved. Either way, deserved or undeserved, you're GOING to like it. However, your strength as an individual depends on how you respond to both criticism and praise. If you let either one have any effect on you, it's going to hurt us. Whether it's criticism or praise, deserved or undeserved, makes no difference. If we let it affect us, it hurts us." Implementing and working on these flaws takes time. Some little battles you lose, others are small victories. Shit happens, reflect, fix and keep growing. Shout out to everyone giving it their all to find their paths and purpose. Especially the ones I'm working with! Happy Sunday everyone. Peace and love
This is my first ever rep search entry, but I saw Whimsify was doing a rep search and had to give it a try! I've seen hundreds of their unboxings and the things they put in their bookish boxes, and everything always looks so stunning!! So forgive me while I babble excitedly in the corner.
Hello, @whimsifybox! My name is Miranda Marie and I am from the Black Hills of South Dakota, USA. I'm a three-time published author (or will be in October, that is!) and I love bookish things. I'm a big fan of the written word, so much so that I couldn't just read books - I had to contribute. I've written over 40 novels and plan to publish them all, once they can be rigorously edited, proofread and formatted (which I will freely admit may take many years).
I'd love to rep for you because your bookish boxes are stunning and everything that goes in them seems to be such high quality. Taking pictures with your items would be more than a pleasure and I would enjoy every moment of it. I take a huge variety of photos from closet-ups of individual items/books, to far away pictures with a whole array of goodies involved. I take them outdoor, indoor, or somewhere in-between (like windows ). I strive to make every one of my pictures unique and interesting, using anything I have on-hand.
I'm as active as my health allows me to be, posting at least once a day and posting things in my stories 2-4 times a day. I reply to all the comments I get and enjoy every interaction that this wonderful community has given me. Everyone here is so kind and supportive and I aim to the same for everyone else, as well. I'd love the opportunity to share what you do and your gorgeous boxes with the rest of the bookstagram community.
Thank you for considering me and good luck to everyone else who enters!
