~Age before beauty.
Young black bear snacks on a salmon carcass and decides to make a break for a tree when approached by an older bear...
It drops the salmon at the base of the tree before making the climb πŸ˜….

One last #waterfallwednesday post since I never ended up posting any of my pics of the waterfalls we found in SWPP. We spent most of our hike being teased by the sounds of the Comox Creek rushing alongside us, but rarely did the water actually pop into view- until we reached the end of the trail.

Bring on the stormy season. My favourite time of year to explore some backroads. Karen is down at the bottom of that tree for a little bit of perspective.

Originally I was referring to our adventure last weekend as a failed climb. I didn't want to share anything about it because I was ashamed and embarassed. A week later I have a different outlook.
We woke with the sun and jumped in the jeep to head for the mountains. I felt ambitious, driven and overly excited to finally climb to a spot we've been admiring for ages.
I have always been an active person - running, hiking, yoga, etc. so I jumped into our hike head first. Three quarters of the way up, I felt my body beg me to stop. I kept pushing. Until I was physically sick. My partner called it and after arguing with him about going on we headed back down with the promise that we could try again after I am done my current endo treatments.
In that moment, I was devastated. I felt betrayed by my body, and disappointed in myself for "quitting". I felt completely out of touch with myself in a way I never have before.
A feel week later I realize that I was the one that betrayed my own body. I hadn't taken into consideration how unwell I have been. I exhausted my body and my mind, instead of resting and nurturing it the way I should be.
We did not make it to our destination. And that's okay.
I'm learning to accept my new normal, what ever that may be.
So here's to sometime enjoying the hills from the bottom - where your problems seem so small compared to the sky high beauty around you. -

Fisgard Lighthouse stands ready to assist mariners in the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Visiting on a late Saturday afternoon, we had the site virtually to ourselves (except for a bride and groom with their photographer πŸ“·)!
