If you’ve never had Roti before, the best way I could describe it is it’s basically a curry chicken burrito with chick peas and potato. I believe it’s origin is in Indian cuisine, but many Caribbean islands have their take on the dish making it an Indo-Caribbean staple.
My favorite place to order Roti is at Gertrude’s, White Bay on the British Virgin Island of Jost Van Dyke. Unfortunately, Gertrude’s and so many of our favorite island spots in the Virgin Islands have been wiped out as a result of the hurricanes this past season. We are so fortunate to call the USVI and the BVI our homes away from home thanks to our family members who have homes there. We felt helpless as Hurricanes Maria and Irma caused major devastation across these beautiful islands until we heard about Adopt A Family USVI. This organization matches you with a family in need and a list of supplies (toiletries, cleaning supplies, clothes, etc) the family has requested. All you have to do is fill a USPS large flat rate box with whatever items you can and send it to the family’s address. The islands are rebuilding, but there’s a long road ahead. I know there are many organizations for so many different causes, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to do a little PSA for one close to our If you’d like to get involved, visit www.adoptafamilyusvi.com @adoptafamilyusvi #usvi#bvi#roti#currychicken#homemade#homemadefood#healthyfood#foodie#eeeeeats#instayum#instagood#caribbean
