THE HEART OF THE WORLD, 2000 directed by Guy Maddin. A six minute short film tackles the apocalypse, sacrifice, salvation, etc all major themes you'd see in a feature length film. It's a silent film of epic proportions, defining a fearless exploration of what art used to be. Watching this film is like chucking down a triple shot of espresso while taking a spin on a wacky merry-go-round at 50mph. It's a sci-fi mashed up with melodrama all shot on Super 8 and yet something seems so relevant about it today or at least that was my reaction. A postmodernist film that dazzles my eyeballs.
