Supersets are pairing two exercises back to back without any rest in between. Supersets can help you build more muscle in less time but only if you know how to pair exercises. Here are some examples.
Pre-exhaustion- Perform an isolation exercise with a compound movement for the same muscle group right after. No rest in between. This will allow you complete exhaustion of the muscle group while saving you time. (Chest Fly, Bench Press)
Post-exhaustion- Perform a compound movement first with an isolation movement right after with no rest in between (Bench Press, Chest Fly). Both Pre-exhaustion and Post-exhaustion will be very effective for hypertrophy but Post-Exhaustion will allow greater workloads.
Staggered- this is a pairing of two muscle groups from different parts of the body (Front Squats, Chin-ups). This can be very good for improving recovery. While the upper body rests, lower body works and while lower body works, upper body rests.
