Some movie called "A Dog's Purpose". This is footage from the set where they are forcing a clearly terrified German Shepherd into the churning water. I can't believe @bestfriendsanimalsociety has aligned themselves with this production's PR. 💔 @peta @americanhumane @aspca

I was looking forward to taking my Godson to seeing "A Dog's Purpose" until their filming of the movie was shown to be absolutely abusive to this German Shepard. I wonder what else was caught on cell phone video and not released. The guy that can be heard laughing isn't amusing either. The dog had to be rescued at the end of the video after they made it go into the churning water and later went under! Thank you for releasing this #tmz @tmz_tv

@tmz_tv obtained a video from the set of A Dog's Purpose and it shows a clearly frightened German Shepherd being forced into the water for a scene.

You can see a trainer forcibly shoving a German Shepherd -- one of at least 5 dogs used in the production -- into the water, but the animal wanted NO part of it ... and repeatedly clawed at the pool's edge as seen in the video.

TMZ goes on to say It's unclear if the dog going under was scripted, but someone immediately yelled, "Cut it!" ... and handlers rushed to the animal.

Director Lasse Hallström was present the whole time, and at least one member of the crew was extremely disturbed by the dog's treatment during this scene.

Amblin Partners and Universal Pictures have seen the video and told TMZ, "Fostering a safe environment and ensuring the ethical treatment of our animal actors was of the utmost importance to those involved in making this film and we will look into the circumstances surrounding this video." @adogspurposemovie

#quatrovidasdeumcachorro #adogspurposemovie #adogpurpose #boicote #tmz

@Regrann from @chriss.360 - 😤😡 @adogspurposemovie needs to hear from all of us‼️ UNBELIEVABLE😡😡😡Check out this video and see how @adogspurposemovie treated this terrified dog😡😤😡😤In case anyone was planning on watching what was supposed to be a feel-good movie, this is what you'll be supporting. ‼️‼️‼️READ VIA TMZ: One of the dogs in the upcoming film "A Dog's Purpose" desperately resisted shooting a risky scene, but chilling footage shows filmmakers apparently forcing the animal into rushing water.

TMZ obtained this video of a scene shot in a pool outside Winnipeg, Canada in November 2015. You can see a trainer forcibly shoving a German Shepherd -- one of at least 5 dogs used in the production -- into the frothing water, but the animal wanted NO part of it ... and repeatedly clawed at the pool's edge.

Sources connected to production tell us 8 outboard motors were used to churn the water and recreate a rushing river. The dog eventually got in the water -- or was forced in -- but was quickly submerged.

It's unclear if the dog going under was scripted, but someone immediately yelled, "Cut it!" ... and handlers rushed to the animal.

We're told director Lasse Hallström was present the whole time, and at least one member of the crew was extremely disturbed by the dog's treatment during this scene.

Amblin Partners and Universal Pictures have seen the video and tell TMZ, "Fostering a safe environment and ensuring the ethical treatment of our animal actors was of the utmost importance to those involved in making this film and we will look into the circumstances surrounding this video."
