On the wedding day, before the religious ceremony, takes place the tradition of "casa". "Casa" is the braid that young lipovan girls wear, intertwining their long hair with a red ribbon, as a symbol of their unmarried status.
During the morning, all the bride's friends and family gather for the ritual of her last braid, a deeply emotional moment, as she says goodbye to her childhood. Everyone is singing the traditional #russian songs for this occasion, while the bride to be is having her hair twisted in a single braid for the last time.
Tears accompany the moment, but they quickly turn into tears of joy as the groom makes his entrance to claim the bride, for whom he has to fiercely "negociate" with her family and friends, who are not willing to "give her up" so easily.
L I P O V E N I is a personal #photoproject aimed at capturing the nowadays life and culture of the Russian-Lipovan #ethnicminority in #Romania.
- Fare you well, my dear ones!
These old people seem to be eternal. Because they have grown up around here. We, modern people, are inadequate wherever we are. We are no longer connected to eternity. That's why we do not know how to get older... So, gerontology was born... An old woman in front of an old house-museum in Bucovina.
