Cutting up the pineapple for breakfast this morning reminded me that on this day a year ago, we were Hawaii-bound! .
And that in turn, made me think of the unforgettable day we spent driving the Road to Hana on Maui. Don't let anyone tell you your kids are too young- there are a gazillion gob-smackingly beautful spots to stop, swim in waterfalls, views and of course: eat Shave Ice and Maui Gold pineapples (or pineapple ice pops in this case). .
You can do as much of this incredible Scenic road your kids will allow, and even doing a portion is completely worthwhile! With the help of GypSy Guide on our audio, we navigated the 600 switchbacks, stopped at the most worthwhile places and learnt a bunch. Next time though, we would spend a night or two in Hana before heading back down. The beaches are gorgeous and it seemed a shame to hop back in car so soon, and back again. Yet our GypsyGuide planned on that and kept us going with tales and legends of Hawaii's volcanic birth, its first people and sparring Gods. We hope some it filtered into the kids' memory banks even when they were begging for Hits100..
