I came across this burrowing owl is just trying to shut the world out! Unfortunately their numbers are declining, but you can still find them in the wild in North and South America! They live on the ground so the coloring is appropriate camouflage for them. @awh.animals
Raccoons are certainly cute but nearly 100% of wild raccoons carry the round worm Baylisascaris procyonis!
Raccoons are the definitive host for this parasite and have minimal symptoms from it. However, if dogs or humans accidentally ingest raccoon fecal material they may develop visceral larval migrans and even neurologic defecits from larval migration into CNS tissue. Eggs shed in the feces take 2-4 weeks to become infectious but may last for years in the environment. Raccoons are also common rabies vectors and are susceptible to canine distemper and feline parvovirus.
This raccoon was orphaned in SW Florida and raised by the nature conservancy until he was able to fend for himself! #dailyvetfact#veterinary#vet#vetstudent#veterinarystudent#veterinarymedicine#vetlife#raccoons#naturesbandit#wildlife#parasites
"Este é um Mastiff de 2 anos que foi encaminhado para nós com uma história de pododermatite de drenagem severa de 2-3 meses. No exame também houve dermatite do rosto e focinho. Devido à gravidade das lesões cutâneas e a falta de melhora em antibióticos, fizemos Biopsia da sua pele para cultura e patologia. A cultura cresceu Staphylococcus, e a patologia encontrou demodiciose . Ele começou com antimicrobianos e Nexgard para demodex. Este é um bom exemplo de caso para biópsia, pois os arranhões de pele não pegaram o ácaro." ⚕️
"This is 2 year old Mastiff that was referred to us with a 2-3 month history of severe draining pododermatitis. On exam there was also dermatitis of the face and muzzle. Due to the severity of the skin lesions and lack of improvement on antibiotics we biopsied his skin for culture and pathology. Culture grew staphylococcus and pathology found demodicosis. He was started on antimicrobials and Nexgard for demodex. This is a good example of a case to biopsy as skin scrapes did not catch the mite. #gotitchypet#dogs#dermatology#vetdermatologist#veterinarymedicine#veterinarydermatology#dermatologiaveterinaria#petderm#petdermatology#vetbr#medicinaveterinaria#vetmedworld#vetsnobiety#demodex#demodicosis#deeppyoderma#pododermatitis#furunculosis
