The Passion Myth: Alright friends, it’s been a year and a half since my divorce which means it’s been a year and a half of me following my “passion.” Why is passion in quotation marks? I’m glad you asked. There’s a big trend right now of people talking about passion, purpose and envisioning your success. It feels really good to hear this stuff because in the moment it’s inspiring and motivating. But what I learned over the last year and a half is that it’s also a touch of the “feel goods”, also known as bullshit. I manifested and maintained an attitude of passion and purpose for over a year and a half and you know what I realized? Passion, purpose, vision, these do not replace the miserable, hard, mundane work required to succeed. Strategizing, learning and focusing day in and day out while putting in the hours and the failures, this is what leads to success. Following that “passion” stuff might get you to the olympics, but without the day in and day out grind of practicing, falling/failing, mastering your craft, you will only become a laughing stock for all those watching. The truth does not sound as pretty as passion, purpose or vision, but if you want something, figure out the best plan and work everyday to get it and don’t give up, ever! -
