Lets have a quick talk guys. As a hound owner, I love nothing more than when I can safely let my boy run off leash. However, there is a time and place for that. The last two days, Sky and I have been rushed at by off-leash dogs while on our nightly walk. This is extremely concerning as Sky has already been attacked twice by loose dogs and as a result, has grown concerned about strange dogs that he hasnโ€™t met. With each off leash dog that we negatively encounter, our training is thrown backwards. Please, if you are in an area that requires leashes, use them. It is safer for not only everyone else, but your own dog too. The dog who rushed at Sky and I yesterday, ran across a road and could have been seriously injured. While my first concern is alwayโ€™s Skyโ€™s safety, I would never want anybodyโ€™s pup to get hurt. You are not being cruel by having your dog wear a leash in public where required. It is considered responsible. If you want to let your dog off leash, please find an area that allows that. Okay rant over...
ETA: I just want to say that I am not against off leash dogs. However living in the suburbs, I can honestly say that most of the dogs we run into have no business being off leash as they have no recall or impulse control training. Because of that, I support areas that require leashes as it makes it safer for dogs like Sky to get their own exercise. I have no problem with areas destined as off leash areas. -----------------------------------------

So y'all might have seen on my story that I wear a muzzle on walks! There are A LOT of misconceptions about muzzles. If used properly, they are not unkind. If you have a dog who is a bite risk, they help keep other dogs and people safe. I wear one because I eat chicken bones and other nasty stuff on the street, so this helps keep me safe! My mom trained me very positively with it over many months and with lots of treats so I would always have a positive association with it. I don't love it, but I also am not scared of it and it makes my walks safer and more enjoyable! It's sort of like an annoying piece of jewelry. I can take treats, drink, and bark with it on. If you have any questions about muzzles or training your dog with one properly, feel free to message me!
