Helpful Tip of the Day! Mummy kicks, this exercise might look silly. But if you really want to burn some fat & calories! Plus work your shoulders, thighs, calves and your core! You've got to try this exercise and feel the amazing benefits! First stand with the heel of your left foot slightly in front of the right foot. Extend your arms in front of your chest and cross the left arm above the right. Keep your chin up and core engaged. Jump, switching both feet and arms to land with the right heel in front of the left foot, right arm above left. Repeat at a fast but controlled pace. Beginners start with about 15-20 seconds of this exercise. As you body becomes stronger start adding more time to challenge yourself. Another one of my favorite movement prep exercises (and could easily be a regular part of your workout) is the medicine ball lift and chop. This is a great exercise to loosen up and strengthen your core, shoulders, hips, arms, legs…pretty much your whole body. The best part about exercises like this is you can easily advance them, not just with the weight being used or the force of the lift and chop but by simply turning them into a balance exercise and doing them on one leg and then when that’s too easy progressing once again to an unstable surface like a balance pad. You can also change it up by adding in a front or side lunge to make it a multi planar exercise which helps increase your mobility among other benefits. I do 2 sets of 12 reps on each side of these as part of my warmup. Progressing with exercises is such a cool thing because you can take an exercise you are good at or even one you’ve just been doing for awhile and add something to it that creates a whole new dimension with added benefits and takes a stagnant exercise to a new fresh level!
