A trigger point can be described as a spot or point in a muscle that refers a sensation, be it pain or weakness, to another area of the body.
.
For example, a trigger point in your upper trap muscle may cause a referral pattern into the side of the head, behind the ear.
.
Trigger points are very common and can occur within any muscle of the body. Patients that have trigger points often report persistent pain that results in decreased range of motion of that muscle.
.
The most common muscles affected are in the head and neck area, which can lead to the development of other symptoms such as headaches, jaw pain, ringing in the ear and eye pain. Causes of Trigger Points include:
.
⚬ A recent or long-term injury
⚬ Lack of exercise
⚬ Poor posture over long periods of time
⚬ Vitamin deficiencies
⚬ Sleep disturbances
⚬ Work-related or recreational activities that cause repetitive stress
.
There are many ways @athletescare chiropractors can help manage trigger points, including:
.
△ Acupuncture
△ Manual therapy
△ Massage
△ Non-invasive modalities such as ultrasound, laser, or electrical stimulation.

3 Ways Chiropractic Care Can Help Manage Repetitive Strain:
.
Repetitive strain injury is typically caused by rapid, repeated use of muscles and joints. What can you do when you have a repetitive strain injury from your day-to-day routine? It affects athletes, tradespeople, video gaming, computer use, and even crafts like knitting can also be associated with repetitive strain injuries.
.
Common types of repetitive strain injuries include:
.
▫️Carpel tunnel syndrome
▫️Golfer’s elbow
▫️Tennis elbow
▫️Rotator cuff injuries
.
How can chiropractic help?
.
➡️ Manual therapy will help regain motion within a joint.
.
➡️ Soft tissue therapy will relax and treat tight and sore muscles.
.
➡️ Exercise therapy/self-management: Our @athletescare chiropractors will be able to provide simple exercises that you can do at home to help with your pain and to help prevent re-injury.
.
Often, the treatment for repetitive strain may require making changes to your workstation, taking breaks to relax overworked muscles and joints, and exercises to relieve stress and strengthen the affected parts of your body.
.
Left untreated, repetitive strain can cause injuries that may not heal without a long break from the cause.
.
If you begin to experience pain in your hands, wrists, arms, or shoulders, consult an @athletescare chiropractor for an assessment. Book now through the link in the bio.

Whether you’re going outside for some exercise, running an errand, or simply getting to and from a vehicle, winter walking can be hazardous. Here are some tips on how to avoid slipping and falling on snow or ice:
.
➡️ Choose the right footwear: Make sure your winter boots are slip-resistant with rubber soles and non-slip tread.
.
➡️ Plan ahead: Give yourself extra travel time so you can walk without being rushed; make sure to also check for weather updates before you leave the house.
.
➡️ Don’t be distracted: Avoid walking and using your phone at the same time; be on the lookout for ice and avoid icy patches when possible. When in doubt, assume that all dark and wet pavement surfaces are slippery.
.
➡️ Be prepared: If you don’t have salt for your stairs, driveway, or walkway, use sand or non-clumping cat litter to sprinkle on icy surfaces outdoors.
.
➡️ If possible, only walk on paths that receive maintenance. Don’t take shortcuts where snow isn’t regularly removed.
.
➡️ Use support: Use handrails when available and steady yourself on the door frame of your car when getting in and out of a vehicle.
.
➡️ Don’t compromise your balance: Avoid carrying items in your arms as that may cause you to be unbalanced.
.
➡️ Walking with your arms swinging at your sides is the best way to maintain balance. Make sure to keep your hands out of your pockets to help with balance and walking posture (don’t forget your gloves).
.
➡️ Walk like a penguin: When the terrain is super slippery, try practising these “penguin-like” techniques for stability:
.
1. Keep your feet “flat-footed” (place your whole foot down at once—this also slows your walking speed).
.
2. Take short strides or shuffle your feet forward.
.
3. Keep your knees slightly bent, feet pointed out and lean forward slightly.
.
If you’re experiencing any winter-related aches and pains, consult with an @athletescare chiropractor. Book online through the link in the bio.

Hard to get back on track after having an incomplete (lucky me) spinal injury... dealing with muscle/or joint pain is not fun! I need to be careful with overusing particular muscle groups, especially those involving a lot of pressure on my tailbone .... It sounds stupid, because it was caused by falling on an icy driveway... but I keep thinking that I’m lucky it didn’t happened to my baby girl or if I’d fall with her in my arms. 😓🙏🏻 So mommas out there... and people in general of any age, but specially kids and the elderly... be careful! winter season is not over and walking on ice-covered sidewalks, steps, driveways, and porches can lead to many cold-weather injuries. According to the CDC, each year, 2.8 million older people are treated in emergency departments for fall injuries, most often because of head injury or hip/ spine fractures. #wintersafety #icyweather #snowdangers

Amy Akiva (@amyakivahair)

Here are my 2 favorite tips for blondes in the winter:
❄️❄️❄️
1. Condition, condition, deep condition (once a week)! ❄️ 2. If you have to shampoo, put the shampoo on your fingertips and scrub your scalp only, then lift up your ends and rinse. (don’t let the shampoo run over the ends), then condition the ends and rinse. This will stop your roots from getting oily but keep the ends silky and soft. ❄️
This time of year, hair is so DRY!
For the month of January, I’m offering a complimentary 5-minute conditioning treatment with a full head of highlights. Just mention this post when you come in. xoxo

Modlin Group (@modlin_group)

Contrary to popular belief, the holiday season is the best time to make a deal on Real Estate. Most people are focused on the holidays, have begun wrapping up 2017 and started thinking about their resolutions and goals for 2018. They forget that the year is not over and there is still time to close a deal.
I always tell my office if they want to feel truly accomplished and end the year on a high note, they need to to go out and seize the opportunity. Close a deal during the last 2 to 3 weeks of the year. The logic behind it is simple, while many people have shut their engines off and are focused on other things, the landscape is less competitive. If there is a seller out there that is motivated to sell by year end and you show up at their door step ready to make a deal, you will close that deal! With fewer buyers ready to act with immediacy, you will get it done. After New Year's everyone is back at work, competition elevates and there is less urgency. It is actually harder to make a deal.

As the days get colder and darker, as we become more busy in and out constantly on the move.. it's easy for us to start feeling run down or our immune system to take a beating. So instead of taking all the cough an flu remedies you can buy, try getting some natural healers going like Lemon, ginger, oranges; mint.. all good for the body as well as exercising either at home or in the gym should keep illness at bay. #hometraining #lossweight #dropadresssize #wellbeing #staywarm #health #wellness #exercise #fitness #exercise #weightloss #musclebuilding #toning #bodytransformations #winteradvice
