How long have you been a Dragon?
This is my second full season with the dragons. After taking last season off to focus on grad school, I am THRILLED to be back on the field, though my out-of-shape body is less than thrilled.
What do you do for work?
This past fall, I was student teaching in a fourth grade class at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (PSD) in Philadelphia to finish my Master's in Deaf Education from St. Joe's. I am proud to announce that, contrary to popular belief, I DID graduate and finish my student teaching without major loss of life or limb. I did my undergrad at the University of Pittsburgh and was majoring in Linguistics when I got interested in American Sign Language. I graduated in 2015 with my degree in both Linguistics and ASL, and then started working at PSD last year as a paraprofessional. My students were absolute heathens but I love every single one of them. Working with students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing has its own unique challenges and rewards. I love ASL, Deaf culture, and working with children, even though sometimes I wish I had the good sense to create the next Facebook, sell it for a billion dollars, and retire at 25.
Who introduced you to rugby?
My oldest brother started playing years ago and still plays on a team in Denver, Colorado. When I was in high school, I went to visit and watched a game and got hooked. When I started at Pitt, I saw that they had a rugby team with girls who were just as crude and obnoxious as me. I thought I might fit in with that crowd, so I went to the first practice and haven't looked back since. #wcw#ladydragons#womeninsports#ladyruggers
