Today's weather is cold and rainy, so what better way to combat that than a beautiful picture of the ocean?

And the ocean gets me thinking about the ocean breath or Ujjayi breath.
We practice Ujjayi breathing in yoga, but really, we can practice this breath anywhere if we want to experience it's calming effects.
We call this breath "ocean breath" because the slight constriction we make at the back of the throat when we breathe in and out of our nose makes a sound like the ocean.
How to perform Ujjayi breath: • Seal your lips and start to breathe in and out through your nose.
• Take an inhalation through your nose that is slightly deeper than normal. Exhale slowly through your nose while constricting the muscles in the back of your throat.

Getting the Ujjayi Sound Right: • With your mouth open, try exhaling the sound "HAAAAH" - its similar to the sound you make when trying to fog up a mirror. • Close your mourn and attempt a similar sound, feeling the outflow of air through your nose. Once you've mastered the outflow, use the same method for the in-flow breath.
If you're doing this correctly, you should sound like the waves in the ocean. The inhales can be compared to the sound the ocean makes as water gathers to form a wave, the exhales can be compared to the sound of the waves crashing to shore.

• Increases Rhe amount of oxygen in the blood
• Builds internal body heat
• Relieves tension • Regulates blood pressure
• Helps you maintain a rhythm when practicing yoga • Builds energy • Detoxifies mind and body

Yes, I can grab my foot on one side now. No, I can't do it without a lot of practice before. I literally can not even find my foot in this pose before a solid yoga practice! Using a strap is key because it helps me find the general shape even if I'm too cold to get there yet. Maybe someday I'll be able to pop right into this heart opener, but for now, it's all about the practice. Here the recipe I'm using:

Moment from @dk_movement 5-day intensive. When I teach squat variations in a yoga setting, I get questions: Why do we do squat? Is this yoga? Will squats make my legs thick?... I love it when students ask why, not just how. I love it when my fellow yogis think about what is yoga ( What do we sign up for? Typical yoga poses or a body-mind holistic practice?) I love it when we are aware that everything we do has consequences, and understand a good way to find direct the results is to work on the subtlety of the practice.

『雪化粧』
ーーという表現の美しさを感じさせられる光景でした。自然の美しさを当妙に言い表した感性に大都会の真ん中で感動していたYutaです。

ある映画の中で、末期がんが発覚しつつもそれ以上の治療を望まなかった登場人物が、命ある限り最後のお花見で言ったとされていた『美しいものを、まだ美しいと思えることが、嬉しい。』という台詞が思い出されます。

昨日の大雪で、たくさんの不慣れな状況や"非日常"に心や身体がささくれ立っている方も多いことと思います。
あるいは、そんな状況だからこそと、たくさんの気付きを得られた方も多いかもしれません。

そうしたささくれ立った身や頭を一旦落ち着けるのにも、得られた気付きをさらに自分自身と向き合うための糧に変えていくのにも、yogaの視点って役立つなぁと感じています。

明後日には雪の影響はほぼなくなっていると思いますが、よろしければ一つのきっかけとして足を運んでみてください。スタジオを暖かくして、お待ちしています!

Часто в детстве родители говорят: "Не сутулься! Сиди прямо! Следи за осанкой". Но проблема ведь не в невнимательности или в плохой привычке горбиться - проблема в слабых мышцах спины! И это большое допущение. Как только начинаешь заниматься спортом, пропадает сутулость. А какие осанки у качков вы видели?😄 Так вот у опытных йогов не хуже.
Многие асаны направлены на укрепление спины, и об одной из них сегодня я расскажу. 🐍"Поза кобры" на санскрите звучит как "Бхуджангасана"🐍
Её нужно обязательно добавить в ежедневные практики, потому что она не только влияет на гибкость, но и на силу.
Как делать?
🌿лечь лицом вниз, ноги вместе или на ширине бедер, ладони под плечами (как у кузнечика);
🌿на вдохе медленно поднять корпус только за счет мышц спины, плечи не задирать;
🌿руки остаются расслаблены и служат лишь легкой подпоркой, работает только спина;
🌿таз не отрывать от пола, ноги плотно прижаты к полу;
🌿дышать ровно, продолжать прогибаться в пояснице и грудном отделе;
🌿макушку и шею тянуть вверх, можно запрокинуть (на фото голова не достаточно тянется); 🌿в конце плавно на выдохе опустить корпус на пол в исходное положение.
При желании можно повторить упражнение несколько раз. Работает классно и успокаивает!👍🏻👌🏻
