Ok, can we talk kids yoga for a minute? Generally I'm not great with it; prefer teaching adults, you know, a nice Zen-inspired Ashtanga-paced butt-kicking and all. But my kid and I have been doing @cosmickidsyoga together, and it is THE F*CKING BOMB. Highly recommend if you have a small child in your life. I'm kind of surprised it hasn't garnered more yoga-world attention.

Free!!! Emphasis on storytelling, play, silliness, short sequences, and embodiment. Wins every time. This is Jamie, who perkily and goofily and gamely leads each yoga or meditation practice, usually whilst wearing a neon onesie or maybe Princess Leia buns. My three-year-old is all about it (even as he crawls on me approximately 70% of the time), the production quality is fab, and the joy behind the content is palpable.

Brief History of Qigong: The development of Qigong in China has been a very long slow process. Over a period of some three or four thousand years it has been progressively refined and technically adapted by practitioners who learned from experience and acquired the art in conjunction with other techniques of conquering disease. In ancient times it was know as Dao Yin (which could be roughly translated as gymnastics), Tu Na (breath control) and Yang Sheng (body building). Qigong has a long history of association with religious life in China, and the tradition suffered parallel divisions. On the medical side, several distinct schools arose – Buddhist, Taoist, Confucian and Wu Shu, along with a good many local styles stressing different technical variants etc. All these styles are also found among China’s minority peoples, and it has often been through these practitioners that Qigong methods and traditions have become established abroad, especially for instance in Japan. But most recently, it is in the countries of the West that Qigong has acquired significant influence.

This week has just been one of those weeks. Today I had just had two LONG stressful customer calls back to back, hadn't taken a break away from my computer for hours, was hungry (hangry) and felt completely overwhelmed. 😣
I stepped away. Took some deep breathes and then just started doing some free flowing yoga. No set routines or poses. Just a time for me to escape, unwind and meditate.
It's truly amazing to me that 30 minutes away from life, in my own little world, bending and moving and focusing on nothing but being present can do for my overall mental state. For me, it's the best form of meditation.
Sure it doesn't make all my issues or problems or stresses go away completely, but it puts things into perspective and really allows me to clear my head and tackle each issue with a fresh mental state. 🤗
I ended my practice with a lovely savasana and felt so rejuvenated!! 🙏🏽
