Came across these stone water troughs on a client visit in Northumberland. I love it that someone would go to so much trouble to detail livestock troughs in this way, one rectilinear, one crescent shaped, joined by a narrow rill. #gardendesign #landscape #stone #water

Well farewell Shetland, with its Impressionist meadows and implausibly clear water. And not a midge to be seen! #shetland #meadows #sea

Shetland summer night. Although, as you can see, there really isn't a night - 20 odd hours of daylight and the rest a gloaming dusk. #shetland

Shetland sunshine. 13 degrees today, a good summer day so the locals tell me. #shetland

Phase 1 of an ongoing project in Essex nearing completion. Restoring the presence and grandeur of this historically important country house using large topiary beech and yew, turning an empty gravel courtyard into a simply executed modern evocation of a formal Tudor garden. #gardendesign #topiary #formalgardens #landscape #landscapedesign #history

A few plants to set out. They look rather good just where they are....

Lovely mix of wildflowers and 'accidental' garden plants on the verges in our village. Moon daisy with a really dark scabious, and wild Geranium pratense with Geranium endressii.

Herdwick. The least bothered by humans, most likely to pose mercilessly sheep in the whole world of sheep.

Back @ruddingparkhotel for more planting. A few of my favourite views today.

A few of my Chelsea highlights. There's no doubt the show has a different feel due to the low numbers of large show gardens. But, I think the Fresh and Artisan gardens have gone up a level in terms of ideas and quality. And the RHS/Radio 2 gardens have proven a very worthwhile partnership, even if it was rather forced on the RHS. There are fewer show gardens, for sure, but some really interesting and challenging work in those that are there. Here's hoping the Society find a new source of sponsorship to take the show forward next year.
