I've never been good at taking instruction and I certainly can't count with my fingers, the number of times I've been warned not to reinvent the wheel. And although this always seemed to really frustrate the people around me (especially teachers) I wouldn't be who or where I am now if I hadn't done all of this self exploration. This drive is what keeps me exploring and experimenting and finding new things, that make me go WOW. There is a never ending list of things I want to test and tinker with and I am so so happy to have learnt the skills I have as they allow me to keep exploring concepts that interest me.
These little petris are all from a clover. From left to right we have the full flower, the leaves, parts of the flower (I'm calling them seed heads but I'm not a biologist) and the flower casing . I kept seeing these on my drive around the Swan Valley in late spring and decided to finally stop and pick some ( because, well they are weeds, I think and they looked fluffy so I wanted to know more) and fell in love. I wouldn't know that such beauty was growing right on the side of the road and further more what it looked like in resin if I hadn't tried to reinvent the wheel again.
These are still available as a set if you would like to DM me or as individuals which will go online on Saturday.
I am so super excited to be meeting the amazing @erica_serena_photographer this morning at her new office in Subiaco. I love how raw and connected her approach is. It's so clearly hers and it's so inspirational to me and my approach to my work. So grateful to be meeting her today...she doesn't know it yet but I've got lots of questions for her
Every wedding piece I complete is so monumental and thrilling. To get an artwork that has taken three months to complete, out of the studio is like saying goodbye to a sudo child. But at the same time it is a relief to say goodbye and move on to the the next project. For anyone interested in having their wedding flowers used in their own artwork checkout my website for availability. Winter still has a bit of space available.
Ok folks. It's been brewing for a while with lots of artwork being held back from the socials pending the website upload. BUT it is almost done and I have my sites set on Saturday morning. More details to come
This begonia caught my eye during a visit to @bar.botanik and after getting some laughs at asking them how much I could chop before I killed it, I bought it home. can't wait to see how they dry as I have a really cool idea for them
CAN'T EVEN this bouquet was all colour. NO whites, no pastels, just colour and I was so so excited to get these colours out of them when dry.
The bride and I discussed having her in a field of flowers with her husband by her side. But I hadn't planned on making her dress the field until I started playing and just wanted to add as many petals as possible. I can't even put in words how much I love this piece. I think I must have taken atleast fifty photos before packaging it up. You will be missed beautiful.
Ooo I'm so excited to be sending this little wall installation to the lovely house of @teamtonkin. I've been working on this concept for a while now and to finally have solved all of the little issues associated with it comes with a huge sence of achievement. So excited to see this in her beautiful home.
Those dreamy purples close up shot of a little purple piece that I currently have available. These petals are from a native plant growing in my garden. Lol I can't help myself. Garden stores, just take my money....
Everytime I walk into @thegreenquarter_perth it's like taking a huge breath of fresh air. Im not a beach person or a city person and NEED greenery to feel at ease. I can't quite put words to how I feel around plants. They are calming and invigorating and completely addictive. When I visited today there are just a few little pieces that I want to move so they are priced very low. So be sure you check it out over the next few days and maybe I'll see you there
Did you know that the #maidenhair fern is a part of the Ginko family which is what a lot of dinosaurs ate in the cretaceous period. Im a bit of a nerd and think this is pretty cool to be able to grow something with that history in my house
So speaking of random facts what have you got for us. I love learning new things.
My studio seems to be bursting at the seams with so much artwork that is ready to go online, but I have been too busy to do it. So MR GMR has been persuaded to do an upload soon so stay tuned. In the mean time DM me for pricing.
Artist- someone who paints, draws, or makes sculptures BULLSH*T
Because we know that there is so much more to being an artist and it doesn't stop at painting, drawing and sculpture.
The first definition should read
Artist - someone who creates things with great skill and imagination. Because in fact being an artist is not about the use of a single medium. It is about creating something that helps others see the world from a new perspective.
This past weekends bouquet from Natalie @zinniafloraldesign is such an excellent example of this. It was so beautiful that I was reluctant to start work on it. Asembled as it was it was a work of art. When I finally did I found that the flowers used were not showy with no big ticket items or statement colours. Dried flowers amoung fresh, grasses and different textures. I have never had a bouquet like this one and I'm so excited to create with it.
From one 'artist' to another, challenge accepted
