Flowers Part 2. Bougainvillea. Nature’s barbed wire. My favourite plant because it reminds me of growing up in tropical places. My husband hates them. It is a lot of work keeping them under control though.
I also have roses, not a plant I like much at all. We have a huge standard with peach flowers that fade to white. It is a prolific tree and flowers abundantly almost all year around! I can only suggest that placing a beloved dead cat beneath it is the key to success with roses. Most of my garden is neglected, I fertilize once or twice a year if I remember and I spend very little time tending to things. Geraniums are supposed to keep bugs away, not sure if this is true but I believe they are poisonous to pets dumb enough to eat them (a cat would never do that?!). I have a lonely jasmine flower. The fragrance at night really is something but this vine has struggled from the get-go. #flowers#roses#bougainvillea#howmygardengrows#geraniums#rosestrick#howtogrowroses#barbedwire
#howdoesmygardengrow Flowers Edition Part 1. Pleasantly surprised to see our 3m high yucca with flowers. It has been 10 years and this is the first flowering. Maybe it just needed a mild wet summer... on the topic of flowers, the frangipanis are full of blooms too. I have 3 types, a ‘fruit salad’, a pink ‘lipstick’ and the usual white and yellow. I love how easy these are to grow and propagate. I also have a straggler agapanthus. The last to flower in a shady spot. We call them novembriers in Mauritius for the month they bloom. But mine rarely flower before December. They remind me of Portugal as it is the street flower of choice. Easy to grow, prolific, nice glossy ground cover. I only have blue ones... #gardenflowers#yuccaflower#yucca#frangipani
Making a move from a traditional orthotic worldview to a #barefoot ideology. Problems with my feet have led to chronic and persistent issues further up the line (especially Achilles, calves and hips). An orthotic program has seen these issues exacerbated.
Most of my training is now done barefoot and I emphasis foot and ankle strengthening movements (lots of leg balance poses, wobble board exercises and Myofascial release techniques). My soft feet aren’t ready for long barefoot hikes over gravel, bindiis and bull ants so I am trying #nikefreernflyknit as my transition shoe. The hyper flexible soul with a low heel drop allows the foot to mimic barefoot movement, a wide toe box lets the toes spread, also a natural movement in barefoot gait.
Moving to barefoot shoes (like Vibram ‘five finger’ shoes, Merrell or other zero drop shoes should be done slowly to allow your feet, legs and hips to adjust to the new alignment needed.

OMG this is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. This teeny #prayingmantis is less than one centimeter long and was just hanging out in my garden watching me water the herbs and having a bit of a #spruceup for Saturday night!
This fascinating little insect is beneficial in the garden as they prey on pests! Apparently they make interesting pets but I think maybe just leave them in the garden where they are happiest! #prayingmantid#bugsofaustralia#cutestthing
#greenabundance and #howdoesmygardengrow with the milder weather this summer, the garden is thriving including my uneducated attempts at growing food!
My houseplant collection enjoys regular sprinklings of #wormwee (the waste water from the worm farm).
For the first time in a decade, my lime tree has produced abundant fruit, the limes have large pips but are juicy and after a long wait we have plenty of them this year!
And there are plenty of berries on my #curry leaf tree which I only found out are edible a couple of years back! If you’ve never tasted them, hit me up for some, it’s a sweet and spicy taste with an indescribable aftertaste, unlike anything I’ve ever had before. Don’t eat the pit inside though. I have a heap of suckerlings too if you would like a baby curry leaf tree. The leaves are used in cooking.
My lemon tree, also a decade old has one measly green lemon in it, my citrus have not thrives here!
Chilis are big and abundant...
And I love the big green glossy leaves of the tropical beauty at the end (anyone know what it is called?) second favourite houseplant after Zanzibar gem (but only because they are impossible to kill!). How does your garden grow? #limes#lemons#lemonsandlimes#houseplants#chillis#greengarden#eatwhatyougrow#urbangarden#curryleaftree#fruit
Welcoming new squad member @mopettavino (the kinda gal who likes to dance on tables ) to Perth as she embarks on new adventures! Always good food at our favorite @thehummusclub (omg the freekeh hummus!) then some squad mooching around a sleepy Northbridge for ice-cream and to check out Fringe festival being packed up for the night. Also a close encounter with the sacred shoe... as always got distracted by all the twinkling lights....
Introducing the Avocado Pit Nursery! (This post is for you @lmtw007) Innovations in avocado pit nurturing made from recycled/upcycled materials and costing almost nothing and also reduces the amount of time checking/topping up the water levels. So simple! Thin piece of styrofoam packaging, unfortunately found in every box of stuff you buy these days. Or can be found in the skips behind big box stores (or ask your friendly Bunnings guy or gal for some). Cut small holes (smaller than an avocado pit size), I use a Stanley knife to cut holes at an angle so the pit sits snug with its ‘bum’ in the water. Fill any old ice tray or any other water-tight vessel with clean water and float your nursery on the top. We eat an avocado every day or two so I have plenty of pits to nurture into houseplants! Change the water every couple of weeks. Voila! #avocadonursery#avocadopitnursery#growavocados#avocadobabies#upcycle#avocadohacks#gardeninghacks
Grumpystiltskin got a haircut. This old boy really was not impressed at being woken up at 7:30 this morning (NOT A MORNING DOG) and being dumped at the groomers (because his last groomer aka ME! went on strike).
Poor old boy. Nearly 13 years old and he’s such a grumpy, bellligerent, deaf (except when the fridge door opens) and blind old git but we love him... #keano#grumpy#bordercollie#haircut#iflookscouldkill
More #acroyoga from last weekend (thanks to Jo and Felix @yogagrooves for these pics and for sharing their love and expertise with us )
When I first saw acroyoga on YouTube some years ago, back then I felt % certain I would never be able to do any of those elegant, graceful and acrobatic moves! ♂️ But here is proof that you can do so much more than you think. I continually amaze myself at what I’m capable of when I just try, open my heart to new experiences and let the love of the people around me be my guide. Acroyoga is more than just acrobatics and yoga, it is about trust, in others but mostly in yourself. I may not be very elegant on the mat yet but I keep showing up... Namaste
