#UnitedStates and #Venezuela officials butted heads during an Organization of American States (OAS) assembly on Tuesday, with Venezuela's Foreign Minister daring the US to send in troops. When #US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan proposed a group of mediators to be sent into the country to ease tensions, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez responded that the US wanted to intervene to take over the country's oil reserves. Sullivan called the allegation as "distractions, distortions, and irrelevances," to which Rodriquez responded "The only way you could impose it would be to send in your #marines - who would meet with a crushing response from Venezuela if they dared make such a misstep." Protests have been an almost daily occurrence in Venezuela, with demonstrators calling for President #Maduro to step down for political corruption. Over 70 people have died since April, when the demonstrations began. Protests intensified when the country's Supreme Court disbanded the opposition party controlled National Assembly, allowing Maduro the opportunity to rewrite the constitution and to create a new assembly in his favor. The move caused national outcry and leaders from surrounding countries to condemned the actions. The country is already facing an economic crisis, with starvation and infant deaths rising. #AtlasNewsUpdateVenezuela

#UnitedStates president Donald #Trump has declared that the U.S. will change its diplomatic stance towards #Cuba. President Trump pointed to human rights violations that Cuba has committed as part of the reason for this policy change. Another part of his plan is to change the flow of funds. This would hypothetically take funds away from Cuba's government and military and give it to the private sector in Cuba, but experts expressed concern over this, stating that Cuba's government has enough control over its economy to ensure that does not happen. The final part of Trump's new plan will affect American tourists planning on visiting Cuba. He stated that Americans will no longer be allowed to visit Cuba unless they are in a tourist group and going for educational purposes only. Cuba did not take kindly to this shift in diplomacy and Cuba's spokesperson has declared that the U.S. will not change how Cuba is run. #AtlasNewsUpdateCuba
