Sunrise at the Mesa Arch of Canyonlands National Park is well worth the visit to southeastern Utah. The trek to the rim is not particularly difficult, but a headlamp is recommended if you want to arrive before sunrise.

Abstractions Part 2

In the second part of his series on abstraction, Alain Briot discusses how to go about creating abstract photographs, starting with the selection of a... Creating an abstract photograph means removing the context in which the subject is found. Doing so leaves us with an image filled with visual information that does not give us an indication as to what the original subject was. What the image is about, or of, is up to us to decide. The image was taken in Jun, 2016 during the long weekend. It was a short trip, about 4 hours drive from Sydney. It was the third time I have been there but the first time I have shot sunset from this spot.

Put Yourself in the Picture

Having a person in a landscape photograph can really bring it to life, but what do you do if there is no-one else around? Ian Plant suggests putting yourself in it!

Winter is a tough time for photography. When it is cold and icy outside, the creature comforts of home can be especially seductive. But as nature photographers, discomfort is our lot in life. So, I bundled up, laced on my ice cleats and headed out to the frozen winter wonderland of my home

Winter vs. Summer

Winter in the mountains brings many unique patterns and an amazing quality of light. Getting out on the open slopes at higher elevations, however, can be a bit challenging. Trevor Anderson explains

fter a handful of years of mild winters and low-snow packs, it appears that the winter in the Pacific Northwest is back with great force this year. The snow has been falling at both sea level and significantly in the mountains, bringing joy to both winter recreationalists and photographers

Lake Abraham Sunset, Canada by Shaun Young

Vestrahorn Sunrise, Iceland by Francesco Santini

Vestrahorn at sunrise, iceland, August 2016. I liked the wonderful textures of the sand and the red light of the sunrise. It was windy, so as you can see in the background there was a sort of magic fog created by the sand. I chose the best POV with these beautiful textures. The magic light lasted only 10-15 minutes.

Dare to be different

Do you get frustrated when others don’t understand or appreciate what you are trying to achieve with your photography? Alister Benn offers advice

y entire life I’ve been interested in asking questions; it’s how I move forward and learn new things. One of the significant by-products of being a full-time photographer is the amount of time I get to spend in the field, shooting, scouting and generally experiencing the landscape. Yesterday
