Have you ever found yourself living chained to the things Jesus has freed you from because you think the chains are stronger than the breakthrough?

We love our city, and we believe one of the best ways to show that is by serving our city.
Every second Monday of the month, we partner with Breakthrough Urban Ministries to cook, serve, and eat with about 50 of their homeless guests, and to spend time in community with them over a meal.
Change starts with your local neighborhood. We're better together. #PeopleCHI
We are launching a new series today called "Walk", where we will talk about getting from where you are, to where you want to be.
Get to church this morning with Lyft using the code PEOPLECHI091017 from anywhere in the city to our front doors! We'll see you shortly! #PeopleCHI
To those being affected by Hurricane Irma at the moment, know that we are praying with you and for you.
"Peace be still, You are here so it is well. Even when my eyes can't see, I will trust the voice that speaks." #PeopleCHI

“As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.” - Luke 21:1-4
There was a woman who didn’t publicize and didn’t have much, yet what she gave was greater than the people who gave before her. What we see here is that she was not the greatest giver, but she gave the greatest amount in proportion to what she had. The cost to the widow was much greater than the cost to the rich. The rich gave out of the icing on top, while the widow gave the the substance of everything she had left. When it comes to your giving, do you give God your scraps or do you give God your best?
Giving is often not about what you have, as much as it is about being able to part with what you do have. Giving is about equal sacrifice. The measure of what you give should be proportional to the measure of your heart. #PeopleCHI
"All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had." - Acts 4:32
This verse has to be one of the most challenging scriptures and possibly the key to real generosity. It's the simple acknowledgement and understanding that what we have is a blessing and not a privilege. This understanding makes the difference between a tight grip or an open heart when it comes to giving.
I believe we would better use what is in our hands if we carried this attitude in our hearts. -@chriscarmona#PeopleCHI
