Holidays have always been a touchy subject for me. When I was younger, holidays with family were often chaotic and ended in tears, physical altercations, and cops being called. In the past few years, I've created a lot of distance between my immediate family and myself, partially because of my own screw ups, and partially to keep myself emotionally safe. I've spent a lot of holidays alone, and it used to be really hard! But I wanted this year to be different. I made a goal to do as much service as I can, and to keep finding things to be grateful for during the holidays. I made a promise to myself to spend Christmas with people who actually want to be around me, and not to dwell on the people who've deemed me unworthy of their love, and to love them anyway, from a safe distance. I'm so incredibly grateful that I get to spend Christmas this year with my amazing friends, who might as well be my family.
The holidays can be really hard for a lot of people, for various reasons. If you're having a rough time, feel free to reach out to me. I get it, trust me.
