2018, you rascal! We have had an extra rough start to the year. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been flat-out sick in my adult life.... well, I could before January. Our entire family was hit right after new year with an ugly stomach virus that had us all throwing up, running fever, and writhing around in misery for 3 days. Since then, we have passed around a viral infection, pink eye, strep throat, and infantigo (that was a new one ♀️). We are only three months into the year! We are getting sick as soon as we get well! make it stop! I’m sooo happy to report that for the time being, we are all well again and able to at least go outside in pajamas and swing on the swing set. I COULD NOT be more ready for summer! #samandlulu#giveusabreak
Sometimes you’re really feeling blue because you’re too sick to lift your arm up off the couch. Then, your doorbell rings and you see your sweet friend driving away and a care basket on your doorstep. I literally cried. Ice cream, soup, sore throat spray, relaxing face masks and new toothbrushes. What a thoughtful gesture that is a silver lining on a pretty crummy day. Thanks so much, Erin, for being a bright spot to our family!
This cuddly little pajama-clad princess joined me at worship night last night @lifechurchmustang. Even though we didn’t last the whole time, she was just precious. She loved the songs and has asked me to sing What a Beautiful Name by @hillsongworship several times since. She has started correcting me though, and telling me “I not Jesus, my name Lucy!” in her most stern voice. So tonight as I laid her down, I was standing over her crib singing “What a beautiful name it is, the name of Luuuucy” at her request, as she lovingly smiled up at me. maybe semi-blasphemous? But she loved it. And she loves Jesus too. #lucymichele
The childcare area was full to capacity when we arrived at the gym this morning, so my kids had to stake a corner in the gym and watch the first few seconds of our HIIT class. Can you see how obviously timid little Sam is about this situation? As we walked back to his classroom after it emptied out a little, he told me, “I’m glad to go to my room. I was feeling a little shy in there.” #samandlulu
If you’re a bird, I’m a bird!! more accurately, if you stick your head through a hole in the fence, I’ll stick my head through a hole in the fence. And do anything else you do.... anybody else have a little sibling who is just absolutely obsessed with their older sib? #samandlulu
It’s a special donut day for Sam this morning. Meaning, he ate this donut from church, then went to the donut shop and chose two more that he liked. A special reward because he showed lots of bravery at church this morning, and told his teacher he needed to potty during class for the first time. A small step for most, but this mama knows what a big bunch of courage it required for Sam. So, we celebrated with !!! Also, I think it is of interest to note that among aaaaalllll the donuts in the donut shop - sprinkles, twisty things, colorful icings, fruity pebbles, yummy fillings - Sam scanned and scanned his options, and chose a donut with plain white icing. ♀️ he’s such a funny little guy. #samuelscott#samandlulu
Snow days with two under four are not for the faint of heart. We have had lots of fun, but by the end of the day, we were pretty tapped out on ideas for entertainment. We colored, set up a car wash for our hot wheels, read stacks of books, pretended to make soup in our play kitchen, and Samuel and I even spent a full two hours putting together every jigsaw puzzle we could dig up and dust off this afternoon. Just before dinner, we caved and let the kids spend 20 blisteringly cold minutes exploring in the backyard. Sam and daddy took a hammer to great big chunk of ice, and decided to have a taste (Sam’s idea). I just love the way he’s looking up at his dad. My favorite boys on the . We are open to any creative suggestions for entertaining our little sweeties while we are cooped up tomorrow! #goodbyewinter#cantstandya#bringonspring#samuelscott
Feeling the love on heart day with these two perfect little blessings! This has always been a favorite holiday of mine, and one that was always excitedly celebrated in my family. I hope you found a way to show someone (or ones) how much you love them today!! #celebratelove#samandlulu
Yesterday, Samuel told me that he wanted to stay the night at his Emmie’s house, and when he woke up, “go get seventeen donuts.” Emmie’s response - “ask and you shall receive!” Side note, he ate six of them ...and I hear he’s on hot dog number three for lunch. #samuelscott#growingboy@lmparry
We had fun watching our favorite basketball player this morning! And the kids had fun going to the concession stand with their great grandparents, and coming back with armloads of candy and snacks at 10am. ♀️#samandlulu
What a wonderful weekend with my sweet family! Thankful for the reminder from pastor @craiggroeschel to be “grateful in the grind” today. Here’s to making the most of our crazy, messy time with this little three-year-old and almost-two-year-old together! #samandlulu#familytime
Sometimes, an OKC stay-cation with the people you love most is just as refreshing as an expensive trip. We spent the night in the MOST BEAUTIFUL, newly renovated historic @airbnb home in the plaza district hosted by @oneokstay. Super cozy, quaint, and very accommodating for families, not to mention within walking distance to plaza shopping and dining. We finished up the morning with the most delicious biscuits and gravy at @auroraokc Now, the kids are snoozing in the car and we are driving the 15-minute jaunt back home for a lazy Saturday! Thanks so much for letting us tag along on your adventure, @mirrorandthread. #samandlulu
Finally beating the stomach bug after a very gross and miserable full week calls for cupcakes all around. But mostly for me. I don’t know that a day has ever dragged on longer than this one has.... is it Friday yet? #samandlulu
Just in case it has ever crossed your mind that it’s always rainbows and sunshine around here, I thought I’d share how I enjoyed my Saturday. (spoiler alert - this is not for the faint of heart.) Having barely recovered from my own bout of crippling nausea, vomiting and fever on Thursday, I spent Friday night nursing Scott, who also caught the bug, and getting him set up in bed. I tossed and turned for a long time worrying about the kids getting sick and how to prevent it, until I finally dozed off around midnight.
I was abruptly awoken an hour later to Sam crying from his room. I ran in to find him vomiting in his bed. He had never thrown up before and he was terrified. I ushered him to the bathroom and he finished his business over the potty... or so I thought. I picked him up to try and comfort him and he immediately threw up down the front of my shirt. I quickly drew a warm bubble bath and we both sat in it and cleaned up. Took him out of the bath, wrapped him up in a blanket, gave him some medicine and sat him on the couch with a popsicle and a movie (at 2am), because he was still so shaken up and frankly, I didn’t have anywhere else to put him.
Since daddy was out of commission with his own illness, I took to cleaning up the bedroom by myself. Sam had soaked his beloved pillow, all his blankets, and through to his mattress. So, I gathered the blankets and pillows, rinsed them and threw them in the washing machine with all of our clothing, pulled the mattress into the living room, wiped it down with Clorox wipes and left it to air out, single-handedly heaved his twin size mattress from the top bunk into the bottom, horribly smashed my finger in the process, wrangled up new sheets, blankets, pillows. Made his bed up nice and cozy. Sprayed with Lysol. Cleaned up the toilet, wiped down the bathtub and the bathroom floor. Coaxed him back to bed where he wanted me to lay with him. Laid awkwardly crammed into the crack between his bed and the wall for an hour and a half while he tossed and turned and never once slept (poor baby ). Escorted him back to the bathroom to go potty. (continued in comments!)
I hope I always remember every part of the essence of three-year-old Sam. He’s so wrapped up in being a truck driver, like his Pops (his “best friend”). When he first got his big boy bed, he wanted to sleep in the top part. But recently, he was so fascinated with the “sleeper cab” in the back of a semi truck’s cab, where the drivers sleep when they’re on the road, that I decided to rig up the bottom part of his bed to look like one. I lifted up the black and white blanket to take this picture, but normally he’s shrouded on all sides. I had to sneak into his room shortly after I laid him down tonight to retrieve something, and when I opened the door I saw his head peek out of the blankets with a sweet smile. I couldn’t resist asking him to show me around his sleeper cab. I think it was the most wonderful thing I could have done for him. He was beaming. He waved me in with him, closed the curtains. He told me that I can turn on the tv and watch “mama’s show” (the Today show ) if I pretend to push this button. He told me he was pulling a stock trailer today, but it’s empty right now. He is going to pick up his load after he wakes up. If I need to say something, I should whisper because there are other truck drivers sleeping at this truck stop right now. Then finally, he showed me the four books he has collected to read by lamplight in case he gets bored. All of them perfectly themed truck books, of course. And with a glimmer in his eye, he asked me if I wanted to read them to him. And I told him yes. Even though it was an hour and a half past his bed time and I really didn’t feel well. And even though I’m normally pretty strict about bedtime routines and feeling spent at the end of the day and rushing through the motions and all. I read him all four of his little big rig books tonight, and I didn’t regret it one bit. In fact, I was so moved by how much I could tell it meant to him, that my voice was shaky a few times. He didn’t notice. Before I left, he told me he wanted to give me “one big love” and squeezed me sooo hard! I went back in before I came to bed and snapped this pic of him so that I will always have it. He’s such a special baby boy!
Cheese! We spent our Sunday morning in church, and followed it up with a nice day at home. I was able to make six weeks worth of homemade bran muffins to take care of our breakfasts for a while, and a yummy red beans and rice concoction is cooking up for dinner... and smelling so good! I always cherish these simple days at home! I think @okcscott and I are going to wrap up the evening with a movie. Any recommendations? #lucymichele#blueeyes
