Bonneval-sur-Arc is the resort village summer and winter par excellence. As part of the association "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France" and the gates of the Vanoise National Park, Bonneval winter offers an alpine ski area from 1800 to 3000 m altitude from December to late April. In summer, at the foot of the Col de l'Iseran (2770 m), the highest road pass in Europe and on the Route des Grandes Alpes, Bonneval is the ideal site for a stopover or a holiday. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful mountain sites in Savoie.
St. Beatus Caves - Dragons and a Saint
Up until 1,900 years ago a terrifying dragon is said to have been up to mischief in a large cave at Lake Thun. Only the wandering Irish monk Beatus succeeded in driving away the dragon. Today the marvelous grotto world can be entered without risk.
The St. Beatus Caves, which are located on the northeastern shore of Lake Thun, near Interlaken, lead deep into the interior of the immense Niederhorn Massif. Electrically lighted, easily hiked trails that delve up to 1000 meters into the depths, lead past roaring subterranean waterfalls, through narrow passages and to grottos with stalagtite and stalagmite formations.
A prehistoric settlement as well as the cell of St. Beatus can also be viewed in the caves. Visitors should plan on having enough time to visit the cave museum at the entrance to the St. Beatus Grotto. The cave museum informs visitors about cave research and surveying. There is a restaurant at the entrance to the caves. #InLoveWithSwitzerland (Picture from our last trip September 2017)
The Castle of Chillon
In its current state, the Castle of Chillon is the result of several centuries of constant building, adaptations, renovations and restorations.
Excavations carried out from the end of the 19th century, in particular by the archeologist Albert Naef (1862-1936), affirm that this site has been occupied since the Bronze Age.
The rocky island on which the castle is built, was both a natural protection and a strategic location to control the passage between northern and southern Europe.
The history of the castle was influenced by three major periods:

Passengers aboard the “Lötschberg” paddle steamer from the Belle Epoque (built in 1914) are inspired by its wonderfully nostalgic atmosphere. #MySwitzerland@djiglobal#MavicPro
