One of the best things about being home during the fall/winter months is coming to this place. Working here a few winters ago reminded me what I love so much about coffee shops and how special they can be for the people who gather there. I haven’t found a space like this one in Philadelphia, where everyone recognizes each other and most people are reading books or the paper or chatting about the goings on around town and not zoning out on their phone or laptop. I was looked after here and the faux-intimacy I’m used to producing for most of my service jobs melted into genuine friendships. We need more spaces like this one. Let’s build more spaces like this one. Take care of the strangers you interact with day after day. We’re all capable of building stronger, more genuine communities.
Vermont is magic and I'm so thankful for this visit. I was very spoiled here and it's easy for me to lament on the lack in my new home but I am capable of recreating these feelings and sensations wherever I am. I love everyone who has made this place my heaven. Until next time.
