G.O.A.T. for basically curing everything from congested sinuses to skin that’s maybe a tad too-dewy (though I’d argue there’s no such thing ). For me, @caudalie is my forever-mist because I’ll always have a bottle in my stash. It’s uplifting, refreshing, cooling, and it’s great if I apply too much face oil or foundation and need to take the slip down without powder. The alcohol does a nice job at softening the grease I love it forever. Is anyone else a committed-for-life fan as well?! #caudalie#beautyelixir#facemist#skincare#frenchpharmacy#cultclassic#eaudebeaute#tophcam#skincarejunkie
Some gems from the hydrating department, each with their own sparkle. @tatcha’s Essence layers on itself wonderfully for buildable hydration and really truly softens the skin. It doesn’t have any particular scent (even one of fermented ingredients, which I happen to like) nor does it leave behind any trace of application. In fact, that’s why I like it so much: it does its job without any trace that it’s been there @tula Hydrating Day & Night Cream still leaves me speechless after all this time. I love the texture and viscosity of this moisturizer so much. It’s quite yogurt-like, but whipped and smooth and the same time. I guess that makes sense, what with all the probiotics and antioxidants added to an overall stellar formula that yes, includes yogurt powder I’ve said before but I’ll say it again: this moisturizer makes your skin feel softer and fluffier during and after application. If you’ve tried it, you know!!!
Last but not least, my beloved @tataharperskincare Hydrating Floral Essence. Spray too much and it’s sticky, but it’s the next best thing to applying a plant-based hydration serum. I love the scent, I love the experience (iiiiiif you get a good pump) and reach for it on instinct at this point. Investing in the larger bottle is technically a better value, but with green skincare, you want to be sure you use it up within a reasonable period of time. For me, that’s not a challenge, but perhaps give it a try before taking the ~$90 plunge. I’ve been through countless bottles, so feel free to use my testimonial if it helps at all #tophcam#skincare#tatcha#tatcha#tataharper#hydration#skincare#greenbeauty#instaskin#skincarejunkie#skincareblogger
It’s rare that we get three new acid exfoliants from brands who haven’t been known for such in the past. I hear there are plenty new formulas to come from a multitude of brands, so we’ll have to just wait and see. Out of all three here, the @tartecosmetics Knockout is my favorite. It’s also clearly influenced by the beloved P50 and shared a similar lactic/niacinamide/onion/vinegar feel, but for a fraction of the price and thrice the distribution volume. @glossier Solution is a bit temperamental on my skin. When I apply products after using it, a whole new stinging and tingling sensation re-ignites on my skin and it feels freshly applied. In my opinion, the sheer amount of sodium hydroxide in the formula is a bit aggressive and should be used with caution, if at all. Finally, the @renskincareus Ready Steady Glow. Steady is the best word for this one in my opinion because it’s reliable, juicy in scent and application, and extremely good value for money. If you need a good lactic-only exfoliant, go for this. If you’re seeking more advanced and well-rounded treatment, go for the @tartecosmetics. #acidtoner#acidexfoliant#liquidexfoliant#toner#skincare#tophcam#skincarejunkie
Hi world! It’s Charlie! I adopted her from @ps9pets in Williamsburg about a month ago and it’s been so rewarding and enriching getting to know each other. I’ve learned patience, respect, and utter adoration and she’s learned that hey, not all humans are scary! And yes, she’s got paw freckles to match the ones on her nose Charlie was her name when I adopted her, and since my red Mini Cooper is already named Stella, the Universe has continued to fuel my complete and utter obsession with The Italian Job from 2003 #tophcam#catsofinstagram#adoptdontshop#catsofnyc
A few thoughts on: @theouai Wave Spray. Firstly, lots of four letter words used with the utmost excitement will pretty much cover it. Nothing else can compete in any realm of haircare if you ask me. It’s incredibly easy to use but creates a look on my hair that looks like I spent a lot of time on it. It utilizes rice proteins as opposed to the traditional magnesium chloride (i.e salt) so you get the texture but not the stiffness or dryness. On my hair, it gives me the most perfect curly-waves, body, and bounce. I get all day hold - well, until I wash my hair again - and an incredible amount of shine. When I run a brush through, it’s like instant Veronica Lake plush waves. Both look great and keep my hair moisturized, which is also greatly appreciated. For me, it’s the best product I’ve found to more or less convince people that my hair is naturally curly and perfect but the truth is, it’s literally just Wave Spray. I’m hooked for life 🧜♂️ #ouai#wavespray#wavyhair#curlyhair#haircare#tophcam#haircareroutine
Somehow I’ve finished five @tocca x John Robshaw ‘Java’ candles in the past year, but I’m not all that surprised. The mere thought of not having one in my house makes me itchy. I reuse the beautiful glass containers to store everything from skincare spatulas to cotton buds. The lid can be flipped over as a decorative base for your candle to protect your coffee table from getting scorched, but effectively keeps dust out of the container, so in the candle’s afterlife it actually serves as a functional piece of storage for your small precious objects. The scent of the candle is somewhere between the headrush you get when you walk into a Starbucks, the strange comfort of clove cigarettes, and the sensation of what it might be like to climb inside a warm chocolate dessert fresh out of the oven. It’s gourmand, but grown up and sexy as hell so if you tryna set that kind of mood...
Speaking slathering my face to shield from winter...
I love @tatcha for using 3% colloidal oatmeal in a creamy, melty, cocooning facial moisturizer. If you have eczema or a n y type of irritation or, um, I dunno, wind-blistered bitterly frozen skin from stepping outside for a pipe and a pancake - this helps. Without a doubt I appreciate their inclusion of Japanese indigo and its spiritual and cultural significance of the Samurai and its believed skin-healing ingredients. I love the packaging (come on!), the omission of fragrance (“natural” or otherwise), and that the rest of the ingredients in this cream are yummy and will undoubtedly make the skin feel smoother and softer. With that said, $135 is a lot of money any which way you look at it. If you have that money, great (and not on credit hunny - trust me I’m just as guilty!!!!! New year new me!) but if you don’t, there are plenty of other reparative and anti-inflammatory creams out there for much less cash. I’m sure some of you knowledgable folks out there have plenty to recommend to both me and each other so feel free to away below Brb knee deep in Desperate Housewives and there’s no chance I’m getting out of this vortex anytime soon - thank God. .
Fighting this freezing cold NYC nonsense with like seven layers of @origins x @drweil Mega Mushroom Treatment Lotion. I emphasize the layering aspect because not all essence-y / lotion-y / toner-y type products build nicely on the skin, as I’m sure you’ve experienced. Sometimes they get sticky, sometimes they ball up on themselves, and sometimes they just don’t feel like they’ve done anything at all regardless of how much you apply. This one feels like it’s both providing the skin with water-binding hydration and a calming sense of balance. It’s not the first product I’d reach for if my skin were to suddenly flare up uncontrollably, but it’s certainly what I’d reach for on the road to skin recovery. It’s excellent when the air is dry and everything just feels generally quite tight, dull, or irritated. I’ve been really very pleased with the Mega Mushroom line as a whole (thanks @origins!) but there’s a reason why the Treatment Lotion is so popular .
Out of all the wonderful masks I tried for the first time in 2017 or continued to enjoy from years prior, these three made top shelf
First, the @leahlaniskincare Mermaid Mask 🧜♀️ If you’ve tried this one then you at least have an idea of why I’d pick this as a favorite. It’s completely unique - a sticky ocean sap that’s vibrant green and smells of citrus fruits and the seaside. The process of stirring up the contents, applying, and removing (!!!) can be quite involved, but it’s fun to get kind of messy sometimes. Plus, the results are worth it. My skin always feels like it’s been retexturized, soothed, and charged back up with vibrancy and let’s face it, results are just as important as sensorial experience.
Hydrating and moisturizing masks that you can apply and essentially forget about are my new favorite thing, with @glossier‘s Moon Mask being the chief example of impact without effort. Of course you can wash this mask off after 20 minutes as recommended, but I see no harm in leaving it on for as long as you’d like. In fact, I’ve been known to reapply after each episode of whatever I’m binge-watching at the moment 🧟♂️ It’s supremely effective in the rehydration department, and the little drop in temperature you feel upon application is always nice
Lastly, to honor a mask that redefines the mask category: @naturallogic’s LUNA. It’s a red wine ferment and probiotic cream mask that somehow completely resurfaces and smooths the skin while simultaneously making it feel moisturized and firm. The directions say 45 minutes, but sometimes I’ll leave it on for a bit longer just because the experience is so nice. The scent reminds me of boozy Raisinets, and the pudding-like texture only adds to the decadence of the experience. If you want a mask that does a ton of different things all at once, she’s your girl. It was hard to pick only three masks, but I’m quite content with my final selection. They are my personal best of the best and I can’t imagine last year without them What are your top 3 - if you could only pick 3?
My top resolution of 2018: don’t fuckin overthink it for goodness’ sake
Instead, I’ll just kick my feet up and lay on a bed of orange blossoms on a hot summer day - gentle perspiration and all. That’s where Fleurs d’oranger by the inimitable @sergelutens takes me. It’s the heat and sex appeal of sunny orange blossoms from start to finish; it doesn’t falter or fizzle out. In fact, the only fizzle that you might experience is a bit of a firecracker to the loins if you catch my drift. This shit is hot. It hangs onto the skin and clothes for days (not hours) and keeps a breezy window by the sunny coast at close reach. This is what I will be smelling like all year What about you?
Thanks for staying tuned in. 2017 was a bitch, and was rough on all of us - that I know for sure. I’m currently gaining XP to tackle 2018 with the same passion that I had when I was a beauty obsessed fifteen year old. But first! Tackling this lovely post-holiday cold that let’s face it, was inevitable. For now I’m banished to the couch but a little R&R sounds perfect anyway PS: will someone slap me for juuuuust now getting into Desperate Housewives? ♂️ Pinch to zoom for grainy goodness
Much love to all of you. She’s coming back!!!!
It’s snowing so I slathered
To date, my skin’s most loved hydration mask. It leaves behind a serumy mesh of hydration that truly does bind a significant amount of water to the skin and keeps it there. And it’s $22. Everyone wins!
PS I’ll put my Rep link in my bio in case your skin is as patched as mine is lmao
PPS the surplus of dehydration I’m experiencing may also be wine induced so I can’t put all the blame on Mother Nature
